Hope Your Valentine's Day Is LOADS Of Fun...

Aidan Kale's Valentine Mailbox is finished...

Materials I used...
~Two shoe boxes
~Red acrylic paint {Cardinal Red}
~Yellow acrylic paint {Daffodil Yellow}
~Big wiggly eyes
~Black acrylic paint
~Black pipe cleaners
~Hot glue gun
I turned one shoebox upside down and cut the other shoe box in half...
I glued the 3 pieces together and used the lids to cut out wheels, headlights and a grill...
I painted the wheels black and outlined them with black pipe cleaners to simulate tread...
I used two coats of red and yellow paint to cover the writing on the shoe box and for the most part that worked well...
Since I basically made this up as I went along there are a couple things {in hindsight} I would do differently...
Paint the boxes BEFORE I attach the wheels, grill and headlights and before I glue the boxes together...

I also would take off any stickers on the box {i.e. size of shoe} prior to painting...
Regardless Aidan LOVES it...
And in the end that is all that matters...

  2. This brings back great memories. My mom was a star at creating the best Valentine's Day mailboxes for us. My favorite was one we made that she covered in tin foil, white doilies and red hearts. Some kids actually had bare shoe boxes, *shudder*.
